Broken Telephone, 2018 explores the manner in which we see ourselves through the perspective of others. Looking at how the opinions of those around us and outside forces shape how we perform for the public. The project began with an open call for drawings based on a description I wrote of my physical appearance and emotional traits, the focus group consisted of everyone from complete strangers to my mother and father. These drawings examined how others interpret my own biases, and how the biases of others effect their interpretation of my appearance. Within this project I play both the provoker and the provoked, first becoming the object then reclaiming these drawings/interpretations through the re-imagination of these characters through self-portraiture. Physically embodying others views of my own appearance.
